Do you know about - tour Tips For Consultants

Texas Drivers Safety! Again, for I know. Ready to share new things that are useful. You and your friends.

Travel is a fact of life for most consultants. Many spend 45 weeks on the road every year, and some say they wouldn't want it any other way.

What I said. It is not outcome that the real about Texas Drivers Safety. You see this article for home elevators what you wish to know is Texas Drivers Safety.

How is tour Tips For Consultants

We had a good read. For the benefit of yourself. Be sure to read to the end. I want you to get good knowledge from Texas Drivers Safety.

We know one married consolidate where both are traveling consultants. They often joke that they should write a book called "Marriage on Three Days a Week" because they only see each other from Thursday night to Sunday night most weeks. Of course, they take great vacations with all the frequent flier miles and hotel points, and neither one is left at home to manage the household while the other dines in restaurants every night and comes home expecting all the chores to be done.

Like many others, they have learned how to be comfortable on the road so that their voyage schedules are a source of new experiences and great stories instead of a hardship. If you learn how to be comfortable in your environment, you'll do better work and last longer in this demanding field.

There are two types of consulting roles, from a voyage schedule perspective. One type of advisor is the real Road Warrior who is in a different city each week, often visiting two or three different clients and staying only a consolidate of days each place. The other type travels to the same destination every week to work on a long-term engagement over some months. Which type of voyage schedule you end up with depends as much on your personality as on your skill set.

No matter which type of voyage schedule you have, there are some seemingly small things you can do to make yourself significantly more comfortable on the road.

Enroll in every frequent flier and hotel points schedule you can. The biggest perks in business voyage come when you get a free house vacation later. All those trips to Pittsburgh might buy you a trip to Honolulu or Prague or wherever your heart leads you.

Whenever possible, use the same airline and hotel chain for every city. This helps you rack up the points faster, and it also establishes a level of relax and familiarity for you from the moment you arrive in the city. Not every Marriott is exactly like every other Marriott, but there are adequate similarities in the middle of them that you will begin to feel at home quickly.

Packing for Travel

Develop a routine for packing. Make a checklist that includes all that you know you'll need for any trip, together with items like toothbrush and cell-phone charger. Go over the checklist every particular time you pack a suitcase.

If you don't ensue this advice, you will at last end up spending 0 on a "charge everything" gadget and using a hotel toothbrush that will rip your gums out.

Always assume you will have to carry your luggage yourself. If you aren't sure you will need it, don't take it. You can all the time buy one there. (Don't accept engagements in locations that don't have stores.) Pack something comfortable to wear in your hotel room and clothes you can wear to work out. Plan to sleep in something you don't mind being seen wearing in public. In the event of a fire, hotels will evacuate two floors above and two floors below, even if it's just a small fire in a trash basket. That's what that loudspeaker above the bed is for. All luggage looks alike. Make your bag easy to spot on the carousel and less likely to be stolen with a few strategically placed strips of duct tape or a big pink bow. The forces knows that rolled clothing does not wrinkle. Don't fold it, roll it. Turn jackets inside out, fold the collar up and press one shoulder inside the other. Think about what you pack from the perspective of Customs and Airport Security. For example, many airlines will not allow you to carry steel-tipped darts in your carry-on luggage. (Yes, one of us learned this the hard way. Not the one you think.) Carry all medication in the traditional packages, particularly prescription medication. buy two of all you use daily, like cosmetics, razors, toothbrush, etc. Leave one set at home. Pack toiletries once and leave them packed. This way, you don't have to worry that you forgot something vital and will not consideration until the middle of the night in a strange hotel room. When you run out of something on the road, replace it. (This is easier if you use base brands that are sold nationally.)

After only a few weeks of travel, you'll know exactly what you need to pack and what you don't.

Hotel Living

If you are traveling to the same city every week, pick a hotel that you are comfortable in and make friends with the population at the front desk and in Housekeeping. If you can commit to a distinct whole of weeks, they might even give you a break on the room rate, which is also good for your customer.

Once you've tried two or three different rooms in different parts of the hotel, you'll begin to recognize exact things you like or dislike. Within a few weeks, you'll probably have a beloved room. Don't be afraid to ask for it every week. Staying in the same room every week can increase your sense of relax and it's easier to remember what room you are in. Every one of us has been frustrated at least once by trying to open a hotel room door, only to comprehend that the key doesn't work because this is the room we were in last week, and we have no idea what room we have been assigned this week.

If you followed our instructions for packing and bought duplicates of all your toiletries and voyage needs, you can check a suitcase with the bellman over the weekend instead of carrying it home with you. Leave your laundry with a dry cleaner over the weekend and come back on Monday to a fresh wardrobe without carrying a bag with you to the airport. That's freedom!

Make friends with the population who have control of the food. If you are eating all your meals off the Room assistance menu, you will soon get bored with the choices. Encourage the someone who answers the Room assistance line to give you suggestions.

When Christine was working in one city where it wasn't thought about safe to leave the hotel and gad around at night, she called the Room assistance whole one night and said, in the most pitiful voice she could muster, "I'm hungry and nothing on the menu looks good tonight. Help me!"

The Room assistance voice laughed and said, "Miss Lambden, don't you worry. After all these months, I know what you like. Let me surprise you."

In expanding to the best steak and the freshest salad ever served by Room Service, the waiter brought a glass of red wine and said, "The chef said to tell you that he knows you don't like red wine, but this is special. Try it with the steak. Alternate one bite of steak with one sip of wine."

She still talks about that steak. After that night, she never had to look at the Room assistance menu again. When she called, she would say, "Maybe a fish tonight?" or "I'm in the mood for something chocolate."

Remember, if you are tired of the hotel menu, just fantasize how the chef feels.

Since you can't eat all the time, here are some other ways to fill an evening in a hotel room:

Call your mother. Read. Go to a movie. College libraries are often open late. Learn something. Work out. Remember the Freshman Fifteen in college? The life of a advisor includes too many meals in restaurants and too few long walks in the park.

If you rehearsal at home, try to rehearsal the same way when you are traveling. Find out if it's safe to walk/run covering near the hotel. This is also a great way to find the neighborhood restaurants and pubs that the voyage books don't know about.

If you rehearsal in a gym at home, stay in a hotel with a gym and use it. If there is no gym ready in the hotel, remember that many national chains have memberships that allow you to work out in any city. Like national hotel and cafeteria chains, gyms are a great way to find familiar surroundings in an unfamiliar place.

Exploring new cities is a great way to get rehearsal and enjoy your time on the road. See the sights. Shop. Ask the population at the hotel and at work what you should be sure to see while you are in town.

We know one advisor who managed, in one year, to see Niagara Falls (working in Buffalo), the Arch in St. Louis, the Napa Valley wine country, six shows on Broadway, and Fort Lauderdale while Spring Break.

Did you know that Kansas City is the City of Fountains? In the winter, the city gradually freezes some of the fountains so you see icy ice where water flows in the summer. Just beautiful.

Did you know that you can visit the Budweiser Clydesdales at Grant's Farm in St. Louis? If you think they are fun to watch on Super Bowl commercials, just fantasize how magnificent they are up close.

These opportunities may not present themselves again. Don't spend every evening in your hotel room.

Every city has something unique to offer and the population who live there will be happy to help you examine what is splendid about their hometown.

Single Life on the Road

The constant-travel lifestyle is often more moving to particular population who do not have a house at home waiting for them each week. For these consultants, the only challenge is seeing a way to allege a home when you aren't there while the week.

Here are some tips:

Ask a friend or neighbor to pick up your mail once or twice while the week. install self-acting light timers in your house. install request for retrial sensor lights outside. This makes it look like someone is home and protects your stuff. (It also makes bats and possums find another yard to live in, but that might just be an Austin thing.) Hide valuables. Burglars know all about seeing in the freezer for your jewelry, but would they think to look in that bag of potting soil in the garage? Hint: Tell someone you trust where you hid them...you'll remember all the great spots you considered, and you'll forget the one you picked. Splurge a diminutive with all that money you are development as a advisor and hire a maid assistance to come in and clean your house while you are gone. If you have a lawn, hire a yard service, too. The last thing you are going to feel like doing when you finally get home is housework, and you'll be happier in this job if you don't feel that you are neglecting chores. If possible, have a trusted house-sitter stay in your house. Then you won't have to worry at all.

In expanding to maintaining your house, a particular someone on the road has to allege a public life. When you are out of town all week, it's easy to find yourself excluded from your friends' conversations about plans for the weekend. You have to work harder to allege those friendships at home, especially if you are also forming new friendships in the city where you are working.

It's not totally unheard of for consultants assigned to the same client week after week to form friendships, or even romantic attachments, in the city where they work. Having bonds with population all over the country can be a huge advantage professionally because your network is expanded to comprise all of their colleagues, as well.

Don't date someone in the client company. This can get messy. (Yeah, we know. Your situation is different. You'll handle it like grownups. We'd like to believe this, but in our experience it rarely works out that way. Even so, this is still good guidance for every person else.)

Married With Children

Life on the road is harder for those who have a house at home. You miss them and you feel guilty about leaving them behind, and even more guilty when you're having fun without them.

The same tourist attractions that enliven a particular person's voyage can make you miss your house even more. You find yourself thinking, "The kids would love this," or "Niagara Falls by myself? I don't think so!"

Here are some tips for development voyage easier when you miss your family:

Write long letters saying all the stuff you would have said if you were at home. Buy a fax machine for the house so you can send them before you go to bed and the house can read them with breakfast. (We know. Email works just as well. Except it doesn't. Handwritten letters mean more. They just do.) Give the hotel's fax whole to your house or set up a personal e-fax number. Encourage letters from home. Also drawings and narrative cards and whatever else that will make you feel closer. Practically all children could advantage from the occasional writing exercise, and most of them already know how to control a computer. Buy a small digital camera or use your cell phone to take pictures and make a "Day in the Life" slide show for the kids. Take pictures of your day from the time you wake up to the time you get ready for bed - pictures of your hotel room, your breakfast plate, your cubicle and co-workers, the bookstore you stop at after work, the restaurants you like - everything! (Trust us, they'll love it.)
Driving in Strange (translation: "New To You") Places

Weather conditions and driver courtesy rules vary from city to city. In some cities, driving is a brutal competition, and it's thought about rude or suicidal to slow down for a yellow light. someone will honk at you or run into you. In others, you'll get dirty looks if you don't yield and let a waiting car merge in front of you. On most country roads, failure to wave at passing drivers marks you as an outsider.

No matter where you are, these tips will help lessen the impact of driving while your travels:

Get a map when you arrive. If you know where you are going, you are much less likely to end up in the wrong place. If you rear-end a car on the freeway, your first move should be to hang up the phone. better yet, go hands-free when you are driving. Best of all, hang up and drive. Rent your car from the same branch every week and be extra nice. Usually, the same agents are on duty every Monday morning, so at last they'll know you and may offer you the cool convertible or the Jag for a week at no extra charge. Not every state or city has a "right on red" law. Check with the car rental branch or look for a "No right on red" sign before you assume it's legal in any intersection where you are. If you are stopped for speeding, running a red light, driving the wrong way, or, worst of all, hitting something, be very diplomatic to every person involved. Of course, this is true when you aren't traveling, too, but you have a better opening of development your meeting or flight if you deal with the situation nicely.

In New York or Boston (or London or Beijing), take a cab or public transportation. Some warnings say "Don't try this at home." With regard to driving in these places, the rule is "Don't try this on the road." In other words, ask someone at your destination or consult a voyage guide to find out whether it's advisable to drive yourself around.

If you are facing your first winter in a snowy climate, ask someone to teach you how to drive in icy conditions before the first blizzard. You may feel foolish, and they will certainly laugh at you, but the first time you feel your car start to slide, you'll be glad you did.

For us, just saying "I'm from Texas" is often adequate to have our clients offer free driving lessons, icy conditions or not.

Air voyage Tips

Since 9/11, holding track of the rules for air voyage and getting straight through safety checkpoints has become more of a challenge, but the airlines have made a sincere effort to help.

Every airline and airport website has facts about safety requirements and how much time will be required to get to your gate. Experienced travelers fast learn to avoid the busiest times of the day and week. In fact, we don't know a particular traveling consulting who would consider flying on the day before Thanksgiving under any circumstances.

Airport websites will also give you facts about other amenities that are ready in the terminals. For instance, did you know that the Hong Kong airport has showers and rooms where you can take a nap? After a long flight over the Pacific ocean, a shower is a splendid way to spend your three-hour layover in the middle of connecting flights.

The airport in Portland, Oregon, has a great mall. You can get all your Christmas shopping done in the middle of flights and have the items you bought shipped home. Oh, and did we mention that Oregon doesn't have sales tax?

The San Francisco airport has twenty different museum galleries that rotate art, culture and science exhibitions on a regular schedule. At Sfo, you can't avoid being entertained and educated while you travel.

Here are some other tips for development air voyage easier:

When you make your reservations, ask for a seat near the front of the plane. Airlines assign seats back-to-front and families traveling with children tend to plan added ahead than business travelers, so the shrieking three year-olds are ordinarily in the back of the plane. all the time ask the Exit Row. Children aren't permitted, and you get more legroom. Wear earplugs or spend in some good noise-canceling headphones if you plan to sleep. population talk louder on airplanes. Planes have only 3% humidity, so you get dehydrated quickly. Carry a bottle of water on board. (This will also keep your feet from swelling.) To keep costs and carryon weight low, carry an empty bottle and ask the flight attendant to fill it for you. On international flights, there is ordinarily a water fountain ready for passengers to serve themselves. When they say, "Limit two carry-on bags," assume they unmistakably mean it and be prepared to check all but your purse, portfolio and laptop. A good alternative if you are in a hurry is to "gate check" your bags. Especially with smaller commuter flights, this means you get your bags immediately when you get off the plane with no stop at baggage claim. Pay attention to the safety speech every once in a while. Like washing your car to make it rain, it's just good karma. We've asked, and yes, most flight attendants feel just as silly giving the speech as you do listening to it, but the fact that no one is listening just makes their job harder. To prevent a stiff neck from sleeping on a plane, ask the flight attendant for a blanket, roll it up and wrap it around your neck before you fall asleep. Your head won't roll from side-to-side, you won't snore and you won't look nearly as ridiculous as those population drooling on their neighbor's shoulder. They make C-shaped pillows that do this, but that's just one more thing to carry with you. We prefer to voyage light.

While you are traveling, do all you can to make your life easier. When you are enjoying yourself, you are better prepared to accomplish at work, and you'll be more successful.

Cubicles and discussion rooms are the same everywhere. The work won't change, but taking the time to make friends with the population around you, at work and at the hotel, will make all the unlikeness in the world to how well you do it.

Just imagine what might be contained in the following 7, and you will see what I mean:

How is Funny Birthday Cards for Dog Lovers

We had a good read. For the benefit of yourself. Be sure to read to the end. I want you to get good knowledge from Texas Driver Safety Course Online.

1. Funny English Bulldog birthday cards

2. Amusing Jack Russell terrier birthday cards

3. Hilarious Black Labrador birthday cards

4. Droll Dachshund birthday cards

5. Witty French Poodle birthday cards

6. Comical Golden Retriever birthday cards

7. Humorous Saint Bernard birthday cards

Funny English Bulldog birthday cards seem especially appropriate to me. They would be easy to create, with great potential for humor. A photo or sketch of an English Bulldog, fangs protruding beside a long tongue, might include a caption regarding someone being a bit "long in the tooth" these days.

A funny English Bulldog birthday card we found online is a "driver's license" for the recipient's English Bulldog. You can have a "DMV pet license" custom made for the English Bulldog lover. Like an official DMV driver's license of the chosen state, your friend's "DMV pet license" will be a laminated, wallet-sized card. He or she will also receive a matching collar or keychain version.

To order this funny English Bulldog birthday card, you provide a photo and information about the pet. Best of all, you select any "restrictions" you want to have noted. Choices for dogs include things such as no chasing cars and no chasing cats. You can create your DMV pet license at the My Pet DMV website.

DMV pet licenses are not only funny English Bulldog birthday cards, of course. They can be funny birthday cards for any pet lover.

Very funny English Bulldog birthday cards, as well as English Bulldog gifts, are available at The Inky Paw website.

Vivyland also has a collection of funny English Bulldog birthday cards. I was amused by the bulldogs in angel wings! Women will love the female bulldog featured on another, with rollers on her head and cucumber slices on her eyes!

All right. So, there are funny English Bulldog birthday cards. What about other dogs and the dog lovers having birthdays? Are there equally amusing greetings for them?

Yes, of course. First off, any pet owner with a dog, cat, ferret, parrot, rabbit, or other pet would love the DMV pet licenses mentioned above. They make a cute card, and an ongoing identification for the pet.

Funny birthday cards for almost any breed of dog are available at the Inky Paw website. They have all of the dogs named above and more. For Dachshund lovers, Inky Paw offers a birthday card featuring a wiener dog stepping onto a bathroom scale and commenting on the wonder that kibble is a carb!

If you are looking for e-cards to wish your dog lover a happy birthday, you will want to visit the Dog Breedz website. They have dog birthday cards for many breeds, and you can create your own verses - hilarious, cheeky, or romantic. They provide information about each breed, allow you to choose a photo and a skin, and then ask for your message. You don't have to be overly creative to come up with a clever birthday card here.

E-greetings often allow you to use your own photo of that African Basenji, Chinese Shar-Pei, French Poodle, or Irish Setter.

Perhaps the most memorable funny birthday card you could send to a pet lover would be one that you yourself make. Homemade birthday cards show thoughtfulness and effort that can never be captured by a purchased card or free e-cards. Take a few funny photos of the pet - or find funny photos of the same breed. Study the photos for funny human qualities they suggest. Write a few funny words as a caption. Inside your birthday card, you can write funny verses, or simply wish a happy birthday.

Helpful Tip: Belated birthday cards are better than nothing, but try to be timely. A birthday card that arrives on time or early says "I cared enough" much more than a belated card - unless you have an excellent reason for being late.

Police arrived on the scene, about two minutes after being dispatched, to find one vehicle on its roof and the driver partially ejected from the rolled Jeep Cherokee. An Overland Park Fire Department unit arrived and reported heavy damage to the vehicle. Fire crews worked about 20 minutes to extricate the critically injured driver, who was partially pinned under the overturned Jeep.

Police say the Jeep Cherokee was stolen, sometime overnight, from an address in Overland Park. The same Jeep was also involved in a hit and run accident, of at least one parked car, in the 8300 block of Robinson Street. A witness to that crash then followed the suspect. That witness tells Police that the suspect turned off all of the vehicles lights and tried to speed away. The suspect attempted to turn eastbound on 87th Street from Robinson when the vehicle rolled over.

The driver has only been identified as a male in his 20's with extremely critical injuries. Officers say the man did not have any form of identification with him.

Officials say they received more than a dozen tips regarding Furthmyer and one of those led directly to his arrest.

Officers booked Furthmyer into the Wyandotte County Jail on Wednesday afternoon where he will await transfer back to the Lansing Correctional Facility.

Furthmyer walked away from his minimum security job assignment at the Lansing Correctional Facility's steam plant around 3 a.m., April 18th.

There were several possible sightings of Furthmyer including several near a downtown Kansas City, Missouri homeless shelter last Friday.

Police say they will have assistance from other local law enforcement agencies including; Lenexa, Merriam, Mission and Olathe.

A statement released Wednesday afternoon encourages people to designate a sober driver.

A similar check lane held last Friday night, May 4th, by the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, checked 362 cars. Deputies say they made 12 DUI arrests, two drug arrests, 1 for transporting an open container and one for driving while suspended.

The Olathe Police Department's Traffic Unit conducted a driver's license check lane and saturation patrol last Saturday night, May 5th. A statement released by Olathe police says that Officers issued 68 traffic citations during the effort, 37 of those citations were for no driver's license. Four were for driver's license suspensions, eight seat belt violations, two DUI arrests and two narcotics arrests.

Funding for most of these efforts is provided by a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), designed to reduce alcohol related crashes in the State of Kansas

KDOT says, across the State of Kansas, fatality accidents are down 26.2% from the same time last year with much of the credit going to enforcement of the primary seat belt law and DUI enforcement.

Updated: June 7, 2012 - 4:53pm

Authorities have identified the victim as 23-year-old, Adam P. Baker.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal accident in Aubry Township this morning. The call was dispatched around 3:15 a.m. Thursday and initial reports indicated a car had struck a tree. As Overland Park Fire units arrived on scene they reported that the vehicle was actually off of the ground, in a tree, southeast of the intersection of 167th Street and Metcalf Avenue.

Due to the location of the vehicle, rescue crews were unable to immediately make contact with the reportedly injured person. The Overland Park Fire Department's Rescue apparatus along with an Engine company and an Engine company from Johnson County Fire District No. 2 were all called to the scene and requested to bring their hydraulic rescue equipment and ladders. An Overland Park Fire Battalion Chief reported the vehicle to be "lodged up into trees" and that the "vehicle is unstable."

After about 15 minutes at the scene, crews confirmed that one person is deceased following the accident.

A spokesperson say the victim is believed to be a male. That male was pronounced deceased as soon as crews were made access to him. An extensive extrication was required to remove the man from the vehicle. The vehicle is approximately nearly 100 feet off of the roadway. Authorities say it is believed that speed played a role in this accident.

Traffic on 167th Street was closed east of Metcalf for several hours.

The content is nice quality and useful content, That is new is that you simply never knew before that I do know is that I even have discovered. Prior to the distinctive. It's now near to enter destination Raising the Teen Driving Age to 18.

Do you know about - Raising the Teen Driving Age to 18

Texas State Approved Online Defensive Driving! Again, for I know. Ready to share new things that are useful. You and your friends.

This article is designed to raise the concern about teen driving fatalities and what can be done to drastically reduce this alarming statistic. While this article may be sensitive to some readers in certain industries, we would like to raise the question as to what can be done to make our teens better drivers and how to alert others on the road that a new driver is behind the wheel.

What I said. It isn't outcome that the actual about Texas State Approved Online Defensive Driving. You see this article for home elevators a person wish to know is Texas State Approved Online Defensive Driving.

How is Raising the Teen Driving Age to 18

We had a good read. For the benefit of yourself. Be sure to read to the end. I want you to get good knowledge from Texas State Approved Online Defensive Driving.

Our previous article raised the question of whether the driving age in the country needs to be raised to age 18. With more teen fatalities on the road each year than the amount of deaths reported from 9/11, we must consider changes to our laws governing teen driving. From another perspective one could say that the number of teen deaths on the roads in the U.S. are greater than the number of deaths reported of U.S. soldiers before and after the war in Iraq! Are our roads a war zone?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported 3,657 drivers aged 15 to 20 years killed in 2003. In 2002, the number killed in the same age range was 3,827. While one would never make light of 9/11, let us consider the amount of energy, government changes, money, war - to name just a few - put forth after 9/11. If only a fraction of this energy had been given to the teen driving problem, perhaps we could have reduced teen driving related deaths in 2002 and 2003 - a staggering total of 7,484.

Following is a combined statement from
- Gordon Booth, Chief Instructor of Drivetrain, Inc. in California, http://www.drivetrainusa.com, and
- Eddie Wren of Drive and Stay Alive in New York, http://www.driveandstayalive.com, regarding our teen driving problem:
"Research in several countries has shown not only that the younger people are when they start to drive the higher the chances of having a serious or fatal crash within the first year of driving, but also that a young person's brain is not fully developed until after the teenage years have passed, and that this, in turn, also reduces a young person's abilities as a safe driver.

Wisdom and any genuine desire to protect young people both undeniably dictate that it is better if teenagers do not start to drive until they are at least 17 or preferably 18 years old.

It is noticeable that if parents can hold back a female for 6 months, so they do not start driving until 17 or 18, then one sees them mature at least 12 months. With males a hold back of about a year equals a maturity increase of about 6 months."

Inexperience, risk taking behavior, and immaturity are cited as primary reasons for these accidents. Increasing the driving age to 18 would not necessarily change all three primary reasons. Therefore, we must consider other possible solutions as well, such as the driving education process itself.

Driver Education Comparison

Comparing our driver education process with other countries is an important step in exploring possible solutions. Using Germany as an example, we were able to obtain the following information directly from the German driving school online at http://www.fahrschule.de

First you must be at least 18 years of age. After you have completed the driver education course and school you are on probation for 2 years. During these 2 years a lesser driving violation would require you to re-take the driver education course. A more serious driving violation would call for your driver's license to be revoked. In either case when your driver's license has been granted once again you will be on probation for 4 years. The driver training course covers almost 28 hours of classroom education followed by 35 hours of driving school on the road to cover varying conditions of day, night and autobahn experience with an instructor.

The above only covers a small portion of the driving laws in Germany. It is evident, however, that the United States does not have these requirements.

How to drive a car?

Teen driver's aside, it is reasonable to suggest that many adults who have had their driver's license for years are not knowledgeable enough on how to drive a car. They may be traffic regulation experienced, but what about actually using the vehicle? During the driver education process we should include how to handle a car under different conditions -- road conditions for rain, snow, ice, what to do if you have to slam on the brakes at higher speeds, sudden unexpected responses requiring split second decisions, how to handle the automatic and manual transmissions - to name just a few.

This type of training can be performed in driver simulation courses that are currently available from RoadSafety.Com (http://www.roadsafety.com). Larry Selditz, President of RoadSafety.Com had this to tell us:

"For the past 18 months we have been involved in a research and development project to bring effective vehicle simulation to novice drivers and others. While simulators have been around for years, the operative word here is "effective", science-based simulation. We recently completed the Research and Development phase of this project and are now in the process of helping to develop a cost effective commercially viable simulation product. One of our Vice Presidents, Mr. Fred Craft, is forming a new company utilizing the technology we helped develop. Fred is an industry expert in advanced vehicle simulation and I believe he would be an ideal contact for input for your article. I have forwarded a copy of your email to Fred.

I have always been a strong advocate of training and believe it is a key component to developing safe driving SKILLS. That is exactly what a simulator can help achieve. Our vehicle and driver monitoring system, a "black box", is the key to developing safe driving HABITS. As my friend Ron Thackery, Vice President of Risk and Safety for American Medical Response, once told me "what you monitor you can control - what you don't, you won't". That applies to teenagers as well as paramedics. American Medical response operates the largest fleet of ambulances in the world and uses our black box to control and improve driver performance. The same principles that have reduced the number of ambulance crashes by more than 90% are used in the "black box" we developed for teenage drivers."

Economic Implications

The primary industries affected by increasing the driving age to 18 are the automotive manufacturers, auto insurance, gas and driving education companies. This basically covers the largest firms within the auto industry.

The automotive manufacturers would only see a delay in purchases by a factor of three years and only for the first three years that the driving age was raised to 18. Most 18 year olds would receive their driver's licenses during the summer after graduating from high school.

The auto insurance companies would hopefully gain revenues by not having to pay out insurance claims due to car accidents created by the 15 - 18 old teens. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicates approximately 300,000 motor vehicle crashes resulting in injuries for this age group per year, which is above the figures for the fatalities mentioned earlier in this article. Therefore, auto insurance industry would have a gain from raising the age limit and not having to pay out 900,000 claims from car accidents over a three year period from age 15 to 18.

Gasoline companies would see a reduction in their revenues with the reduction of gasoline usage. Whether 15 - 18 year old drivers generate a significant impact upon the revenues of gasoline companies is unsubstantiated as of this writing. However, it would be safe to surmise some level of reduction would be apparent. The reduction of emissions would indeed benefit our planet.

Driving schools would see the most significant impact. Short term they would lose business for the first 3 years. Those three years could be used, however, to help provide them support by both State and Federal governments. The amount of financial effort that has been put forth after 9/11 against terrorist continues to question if only a fraction could be used in this effort to help save our teenagers. During these three years, assisting them to prepare courses should be considered. Long term the driving schools would actually fair better as they would have more hours per student to charge.

Affects upon the Family

For parents with new teen drivers with permit licenses going through a state Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) program, there will be no affect in the initial implementation of changing the driving age to 18. Parents with teens that have their operators license and who have allowed their teens to drive on their own will most likely find themselves having to continue to "chauffeur" their 16 - 18 year old teens to their various activities. While precious time would be encumbered, you can get comfort from the fact that your teen is still alive, your car is not damaged from an auto accident and your insurance has not doubled because of a teen driver on the policy.

What if we do not change the driving age?

I have a philosophy that the difference between utopia and reality is a choice. A choice by an individual or a group to make a change or move in a different direction. The statistics about teen driving require a change. If changing the driving age to 18 is too big of a leap today, then we can take smaller steps to help teens have better education and understand how to drive a car instead of blindly using a deadly weapon.

We need to review what the driving schools are asked to teach the students. The requirements need to include not only traffic safety, but car driving training under differing conditions. The number of hours required behind the wheel should equal the number of hours required for the course, which is currently around 30 hours. Parents would spend more money to achieve this, but the additional cost is insignificant compared to the lives of their loved ones.

Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) should be a requirement nationwide and include a probationary period for all new drivers to last through age 18. Traffic violations during the probationary period should require re-taking the driver education course -not with adults that are in a defensive driving course, but with other teens. Asking the teen to re-take driver education through the same school they received their initial education would be a consideration. Tracking the teens that re-take driver education and the driving schools they attend would also help understand if there is a driving school that may not be properly educating the teens.

Driving school vehicles are always well marked while students are driving on the main roads. Unfortunately, that requirement does not extend to the family vehicle for new drivers in a GDL program. All family vehicles with a new teen driver should be required to have at least one label on the back of the car while the teen is driving and through age 18.

Bumper stickers are not always practical when a teen is occasionally driving the car and stick-on vinyl to the window does not address night-time driving issues. The technology exists today to use car magnets that are thick, reflective for the night and are durable. These types of car magnets can be found at Auto Safety Magnets. http://www.autosafetymagnets.com Identifying these almost 2 million vehicles on the road should be a requirement on a national level.

In Conclusion

We hope the above information was helpful to address the problems, the need, and identify options if the driving age remained status quo or if it were raised. We hope the information was comprehensive to show the economic implications and the hindrances to raising the driving age. With these alarming statistics why have state and federal governments, as well as, the automotive industry jumped to the rescue? Have financial issues during hard economic times been put ahead of our youth? We have to "cowboy-up" to a resolution about this national problem.
